New Eagle Mountain Video Premiere Thursday Evening
Join Mike Luoma for the Video Presentation on the YouTube Channel at 6pm EST
Wake the kids, phone the neighbors…
Or? Maybe just make a note to join us on the Ancient Stone Mysteries of New England YouTube Channel for the Premiere of my new video presentation this Thursday evening at 6pm EST (Thursday, February 13th, 2025).
From the Video Details:
NEW FEATURE-LENGTH PRESENTATION!
Join Stone Site Investigator Mike Luoma for a nearly two-hour Exploration of a Special Place - Eagle Mountain in Milton, Vermont. A video Field Trip, with Two Extended Stone Row Walk-Alongs, Looks at Stone Piles on the Summit (and One Discovered Elsewhere), a Visit to a Split Rock with a Split Tree, and the Consideration of Speculative Stone Features, many associated with Mike's intriguing hypotheses involving the development of Indigenous Stoneworking Traditions in the Northeast of what's now North America. He shares ideas regarding the Ice Age Origins of New England's Stonework and much more, providing outlines and illustrations to better explain the concepts and detail the potential stonework.
The speculation may be Mike's alone, but he's also drawing on research by others, like filmmaker Ted Timreck's and Archaeologist William Fitzhugh's work on the Maritime Archaic and Stonework in Labrador ("Secrets of the Lost Red Paint People" - PBS/NOVA), and even Vermont State Archaeologist Jess Robinson's work on Paleoindians in the Champlain Valley, as well as the work of numerous other Researchers, Archaeologists and Antiquarians who have spent more than 50 years investigating potentially ancient stonework in New England. In looking at the Stone Rows, Mike explores Researcher Tim MacSweeney's ("Waking Up On Turtle Island") ideas about patterns in the Stonework reflecting Squamation, the arrangement of scales on a reptile, in this case around a Serpent's Eye, as Tim details occasionally on his blog. The presence of stone squamation may be indicative of Indigenous work, as it could be an element of Serpent Effigy Row design. Mike released his only other video on Eagle Mountain early on, after his first three visits, in Spring 2021 - Experiencing Stone Rows, Stone Piles, and Possible Ancient Megalithic Work at Eagle Mountain...:
There was footage - and there were features - left out of that first video. Those omitted Stone Features are now included in this one. But there is no duplication nor repetition of footage between the two videos.
Mike has been compiling this new, (mostly) previously unseen footage for the last four years, from four trips in 2021, one in 2022, two in 2023, and one in 2024. Most of this presentation is from 2022 and 2024 footage - 2021 footage is a bit glitchy thanks to Apple silently altering its compression format at the time, and the 2023 footage has too much greenery growing around the stonework as it's shot late in Spring and early in Fall.
This is a DIY work by Mike Luoma. The exception is the Music, which is composed and performed by Kevin MacLeod.
And good news for Substack Newsletter Readers — there is still a great deal of footage which went unused for the new video presentation, which you will likely find in future posts right here.
Here’s some unused footage that ISN’T of stonework, as Turkey Vultures ride the thermals over the mountain and Lake Champlain, as seen from the Old Overlook on Eagle Mountain. There’s almost three minutes of this at the end of the upcoming video presentation. I started shooting video again after that beautiful stretch only to have a plane approach at a distance about 30 seconds in, which drove the birds away… it was very WINDY when I shot this, so turn the sound down before playing it. LOTS OF WIND NOISE.
More to come… hope you can join us for the Premiere Thursday evening at 6pm EST on YouTube.
