Facial Erratic?

Exclusive Raw Video of a Walk-Around of a Pair of Boulders in Red Rocks Park on Lake Champlain

Wandering through Red Rocks Park in South Burlington, Vermont this afternoon, I spied these two huge boulders side-by-side. The park is a busy place, as you’ll hear in the audio for the video — a group of children were playing on some nearby outcrops.

As I walked around these stones, the upright one seemed to present at least the suggestion of a face in profile.

And the other one, on its side, looked a bit like a boat.

From the other side. The closer boulder, on its side, appears boat-like. In Red Rocks Park in South Burlington, Vermont. Photo by Mike Luoma.

I'm not sure these are technically glacial erractics, as they looked to me to be composed of the local Dunham Dolostone. They may not have been moved that far by the ice. Or human beings could have had something to do with moving these, as they’re local stone.

As for the shapes? Pure speculation. Or pareidolia, your choice…
