Possible Directional or Manitou Stone in Jericho, Vermont. Photo by Mike Luoma.

In creating my latest video Revisiting Cairn Like Stone Constructs, Odd Shaped Erratics, and More in Jericho, Vermont, there was footage shot which didn’t make the final cut of the video. I thought you might find some of it interesting, as kind of a glimpse behind-the-process, so to speak. Some is simply unused footage of features seen in the final cut, while others I decided not to include.

This apparently propped pointing stone, perhaps a Manitou Stone, was included in the summertime video, and including it didn’t fit the flow of the video this time so this fall footage didn’t get used. But it’s still a very intriguing feature which greets you as you approach the site from the east.

So far, the stone rows here haven’t really spoken to me. I see hints in places suggesting there could be underlying Indigenous stonework, but much of it seems tamed and flattened out. I did include a little footage of the roadside stone row in the final cut… here’s a little more of that one, and a short stretch of another one up along the trail.

The lower example, the woodland stone row along the trail, is certainly more interesting of the two shared here.

Here’s some additional footage of the flooded Erratic…

I wandered across the wetland beyond the Erratic after this, but didn’t see anything I could say was conclusively… well, anything. The video from this bit of wandering is likely the longest segment of unused footage, as it’s over two-and-a-half minutes long. We’ll look at that below, one of four additional video segments for paid subscribers.
